Last week I posted the thought that whoever wants to be a person whom Jesus can disciple must follow Him whole heartedly!
Continue to meditate on that as you read the following scriptures and answer the questions that follows..
Matt4:19-22
And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from there, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
What is the pattern you see in these verses?
What kinds of things physical and non-physical*, did the disciples leave and who did they follow?
What was the direct consequences of leaving *, behind on their lives their income and their futures?
What was Jesus’ plan in getting them to follow Him? Ref: Joh3:16, Joh17:6-24, Matt28:19-20
What things* have you had to leave behind since beginning to follow Jesus?
What is the Holy Spirit reminding you of now that you still need to leave?
Have you allowed Jesus to make you a fisher of men yet?
Luk9:23
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
What does it mean to deny yourself? Ref: Prov 3:5-6, Luke6:46-47, Matt7:21-22
Wat does it mean to take up your cross daily? Ref: 2Tim2:19, Joh15:7-13, Matt4:19
Fact is, if we’re going to follow Jesus, there are a bunch of stuff that we are going to have to leave behind! Probably the biggest is our faulty thinking about life people and everything else.
Take time now to ask yourself honestly if you have abandoned all and started following Christ.
Following Christ for us means to pursue Christ’s will “IN” everything we do and by everything I mean everything… my job my business, my relationship with my wife, my kids, my parents, other people – especially those of different ethnicities than my own – even my studies my holidays, my leisure time my health my eating habits thinking habits…everything!
Follow the list down and ask yourself honestly, am I on par with what the Word says about these matters? If you’re unsure, now is good time to take them one by one and study what Jesus would have you do in that matter…let the Word of God inform and change your thinking on it. Start with one…work your way through it…
Remember to pray and ask God to highlight wrong thinking in your life, then repent – change your opinion to what the Word teaches and start livin’ it out!
to be continued…
